Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM for short, is the ancient medical art of Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Tui Na, Moxibustion and Qi gong. Together, these therapies make up the Five Pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Additionally, Fire Cupping, TCM Diet Therapy and Electronic Auricular further expand upon the medical philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each therapy possesses their own unique strengths and purposes. Ideally patients will pursue a multitude of therapies to gain the most benefit and balance to their well-being.
Acupuncture uses virtually painless, thin needles to stimulate and affect change in the nervous, musculoskeletal, fascial, and hormonal systems to help guide the patient toward a healing balance.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine formulas are balanced to reduce or eliminate side effects, target specific organs, and if necessary to help the body absorb the formula. There are two main tiers of Chinese Herbal Medicine: Custom Formulas, which have each herb chosen with your constitution and needs in mind and Patent Formulas, which are similar to over the counter medication, but are herbal and used for a much larger variety of ailments. All of our Custom Formulas come in powdered form and Patent Formulas can come in either pill, tablet, or powder.
Fire Cupping uses a flame to create suction in round glass cups. Cupping therapy lifts and releases muscle and fascia to reduce fascial adhesions and reduce muscle tension. Additionally, this therapy increases local circulation to move stagnant blood from the muscles. This is evident by the common side effect of surface bruising. Although Western culture often finds these marks unseemly, they are generally harmless if mild to moderate suction is applied. Cupping bruises are often darker near areas of musculoskeletal pain symptoms.
Auricular - Ear Reflexology
Ear reflexology or Auricular is similar to the more common foot reflexology in which points on the ear correspond to the rest of the body. This technique has been heavily researched and practiced in addiction therapy with the NADA protocol and Battle Field Acupuncture for wounded soldiers on the front lines. With Electronic Auricular, stimulation to ear reflex points is done by a battery-powered device that delivers a gentle electrical impulse to the desired point. Revitalize Wellness LLC provides both traditional and electronic Auricular.
Chinese Diet Therapy
A healthy diet is necessary for a healthy life. Chinese dietary philosophy guides each person to a unique diet to accommodate their body's constitution (innate strengths and weaknesses) to maximize their well-being. With this philosophy, what may be healthy for one person may be unhealthy for another. During each TCM Acupuncture session, we can discuss which foods are ideal for you.
Moxabustion, or moxa for short, is a heat therapy in which the herb mugwart is safely burned close to the skin. Moxibustion warms near by tissues and has a similar affect to Acupuncture in revitalizing the body. There are several forms of moxa, but an incense style is the most common. This style creates direct stimulation to acupuncture points and meridians to get focused results. Though the moxa can get very warm, it is very rare for it to be painful or burns to result.*
